Palio and Costume Parade
PALIO AND COSTUME PARADE
6th, 7th and 8th of July
Tramonti ( Cesarano, Pietre, Polvica)
For three days the hamlets of Tramonti will return to their deep medieval origins, with the yearly Palio and costume parade.
Palio is a very frequent Italian tradition, the most famous of which is the Palio di Siena. A Palio is a banner won over in a race or competition, typically a horse race, that the winner will cherish for the whole year. In Tramonti the Palio is won over in a tug-of-war competition.
On the evening of the 6th there will be a conference to discuss the historical value and impact of palio but most importantly the Palio will be blessed in Santa Maria Assunta's Church.
On Saturday the 7th of July in the Campo Sportivo of Pietre there will be the Palio, with food stalls and music shows for the whole day.
On Sunday the 8th from San Francesco's Convent in Polvica the costume parade will set off for the streets of Tramonti, whilst the streets will be filled with medieval food stalls, for a real experience of Medieval times.
This year together with the ticket for the Palio and the parade guests will be given Medieval cooking gadgets to bring home Tramonti's Medieval spirit back home with them!
